We
have all dealt with the issue of our airplanes rolling around in the
car on the way to the flying field. I tried building a couple different
designs of wooden wheel chocks, but was never satisfied with them. They
were time consuming to build and bulky. Then Patrick Winters showed me
the wheel chocks he had made. He got the idea from a magazine. Simple,
cheap, durable and effective. I made a set for my 40 size airplane and
liked them so much that I made another set to fit my larger wheels.
The
wheel chocks are made from foam pipe insulators sold at Lowe’s and Home
Depot. They cost just a couple bucks for a 5 foot length and come in a
couple different sizes. These insulators are slit partially through one
side. When you cut the hole for your wheel, cut on the opposite side of
the slit to keep the insulator from splitting open.
These wheel chocks are soft enough to use for your airplanes that have wheel pants, too.
PW-2 wheel chocks………….. don’t leave home without them!
